Hello and welcome to my blog. I’m User Support Assistant at Bangor University Library, which means that I help people with library resources and information hunting.

I have started a blog to:

  • highlight interesting printed and electronic resources we have here at the library
  • keep people posted about events and training sessions in the libraries
  • link to interesting articles and reports and blog posts
  • share some of my thoughts about librarianship and information work

Cabinets of Curiosities were an early version of museums, and were showcases of strange and interesting objects gathered by explorers. “The main function of cabinets was to provoke a sense of wonder and curiosity in the viewer.” (Quote taken from http://www.middlestreet.org/cabinet/whatisa.htm). I hope this blog will help provoke a sense of wonder and curiosity about our library resources!

You can also follow me on Twitter at http://twitter.com/serenalaburnum.

Serena Laburnum is a fictional librarian created by author Margaret Mahy for a children’s book called The Librarian and the Robbers. Serena Laburnum is kidnapped by robbers, but they all catch raging measles, and Serena Laburnum looks after them and reads to them until they all develop a love of books…and you’ll have to read the book to find out what happens in the end. (The Great Piratical Rumbustification and The Librarian and the Robbers on Amazon).
